Family-Owned Security and Low-Voltage Experts
Trusted since 1996 in Jamaica, Queens
City Electric & Communications is a family-owned security, low-voltage, and communications company based in Jamaica, Queens. The business has been family-run since 1996, and the communications trade behind it goes back to 1983 — before IP cameras, before cloud access control, back when "low-voltage" meant pulling phone and intercom wire through New York buildings by hand. That long runway is why we can look at almost any system, old or new, analog or digital, and know what to keep and what to replace.
George's Story
The company is run by George Legrand, and George is the reason the work looks the way it does. He came up in communications in the early 1980s, added electrical and low-voltage over the years, and started the family business in 1996.
That owner-present approach is deliberate. A lot of security work goes wrong not because the gear is bad but because nobody who understood the building signed off on the install. Whenour quality control team is the one checking the camera angles, the cable terminations, and whether the remote viewing actually works, the details get caught before you do.
Licensed and Honest About Value
We're based in Queens and we stay close to it — serving Queens, the Bronx, Westchester, and Rockland within a deliberate radius so we can reach jobs quickly and inspect them properly.
We don't chase every borough, and we don't target Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Staten Island; stretching that far would slow our service to the areas we're committed to. Staying tight to home is what lets us show up when we say we will and stand behind the work afterward.
Being local, licensed, and owner-inspected is the whole pitch, and it's held up since 1996.

What We Do
We're a commercial-first low-voltage company — about 80% of our work is for businesses, buildings, and facilities.
That includes video surveillance and security cameras, burglar and fire alarm systems, access control, structured cabling, intercom and entry systems, and business phone systems.
We also serve healthcare facilities — nurse call, intercom, surveillance, and access control — and do residential home theater and automation, strongest out in Westchester and Rockland.
One thing we're known for is
taking over systems other companies installed or abandoned. New management inherits a broken, analog, or neglected setup; we come in, assess it, make practical recommendations, and take over the infrastructure cost-effectively instead of forcing a full rip-and-replace.
How We Approach a Job
Every job starts the same way: we walk the building. Before we quote, we look at where people enter, where the blind spots are, how the ceilings and risers run, and what power and cable paths are already there.
In older New York buildings — pre-war masonry, additions layered over decades, conduit reused three times over — that walk is where the real cost and the real design live. A number quoted off a floor plan usually misses it.
From there we design the system to the building, not from a catalog. We map camera coverage to the actual entrances and choke points, size the alarm and access control to how the space is used, and plan the cabling so everything it feeds stays reliable.
We keep the crew small and the work owner-checked on purpose — it's slower to scale that way, but it's the only way George can stand behind every install. When we hand a system over, we make sure you can actually use it: the app works, the footage is clear, and someone answers the phone when you call back.
