How a Commercial Alarm System Works
A burglar alarm is a control panel plus the devices that tell it something is wrong: door and window contacts, motion sensors, glass-break detectors, and sometimes shock or vibration sensors on vulnerable openings.
The panel watches those zones and, when one trips while the system is armed, signals a monitoring center and sounds a local siren. Fire alarm devices — smoke and heat detectors, pull stations, and horn/strobes — work on the same logic but are held to stricter code because lives, not just property, are on the line.
The weak link in most old systems is how the panel calls out. Systems that report only over a phone line fail the moment the line is cut or the building drops its landline.
Modern panels use a cellular communicator, often with an internet path as backup, so losing power or a phone line does not silence the alarm. When we assess an existing system, that communication path is one of the first things we check.

What we install and how the work is done
We start by walking the building and mapping the real risk points — the doors people force, the ground-floor windows, the back-of-house entries, the areas that must never see motion after hours.
Then we spec a panel sized to those zones with room to grow, place contacts and sensors where entry actually happens, and add cellular backup so the alarm can always report. We wire it cleanly, program the zones and arming schedules, and set user codes so staff can arm and disarm without confusion.
For fire, we install to code and coordinate detector placement, horn/strobe coverage, and panel supervision so the system passes inspection and, more importantly, wakes a building up in time.
A big part of doing alarms right is reducing false alarms — bad sensor placement, pets, HVAC air movement, and doors that don't seal all cause nuisance trips that get a location fined and ignored. We place and tune devices to cut those down, then verify every zone with George before we hand it over.
Monitoring — honest options, no lock-in games
Monitoring is what turns a loud siren into an actual response: a UL-listed central station watches your signals around the clock and dispatches police or fire, or calls your list, when an alarm comes in. It is not legally required for most businesses, but for anything with real inventory, cash, or after-hours risk it is usually worth it — an unmonitored alarm only helps if someone happens to hear it.
Commercial monitoring commonly runs about \$30–\$60 a month depending on whether it is burglar-only or includes fire, and whether it is cellular. We offer straightforward monitoring and we will also tell you when self-monitoring or a lighter plan makes sense.
What we will not do is bury you in a multi-year contract with an early-termination trap — a recurring problem with large national providers that we hear about constantly from clients switching to us.

We Take Over Alarms Other Companies Walked Away From
You do not have to start from scratch to switch. In most cases we can take over an existing alarm — reprogram the panel, move monitoring to our central station, add cellular backup, and reuse the sensors and wiring that still work.
If the panel is obsolete or the wiring is shot, we will tell you plainly and quote a replacement instead of nursing dead hardware. Either way you get an owner-inspected system and a company that answers the phone.

Often it will. Many door/window contacts, motion sensors, and their wiring are reusable with a new panel, which keeps the cost of an upgrade down. During the assessment we test the existing devices and wiring, keep what still performs, and replace only the sensors that are failing or poorly placed.
